Bridging Newborn Care, Infant Mental Health & Holistic Family Sleep
Meet Vicki Gray Kuper, founder of VGK Sleep Co., Certified Infant & Child Sleep Consultant, Newborn Educator, night support professional, mother of three, and graduate of the International Parenting & Health Institute’s Holistic Pregnancy & Child Sleep Consultant Certification Program.
Based in Sydney, Australia, Vicki brings 15 years of experience to her work supporting newborns, babies, young children and their parents. Her professional background extends beyond sleep alone, bringing together newborn education, infant mental health, postnatal mental-health awareness and hands-on family support.
At the center of her work is a principle that aligns closely with holistic family care:
Every baby is different. Every family is different. And support should reflect those differences.
15 Years Supporting Babies & Families
Vicki describes herself as a nurturer by nature.
Over the course of 15 years, her work has evolved across several interconnected areas of newborn and family wellbeing. Today, she identifies professionally as a Certified Infant & Child Sleep Consultant and Newborn Educator, while also providing night and newborn support to families.
Her experience is also personal.
Vicki is the mother of three adult children, giving her the perspective of someone who has experienced parenthood herself while spending years professionally supporting other families through their earliest stages.
Through VGK Sleep Co., that combination of professional education and lived experience has developed into a model centered around education, realistic expectations, individualized support and parental confidence.
Expanding Into Holistic Pregnancy & Child Sleep
Vicki expanded her professional education through the International Parenting & Health Institute and graduated from our Holistic Pregnancy & Child Sleep Consultant Certification Program.
Her current website continues to reference her international maternity sleep education in the United States and describes her professional approach as both holistic and gentle.
For Vicki, holistic sleep support means looking beyond a single sleep behavior.
She considers a baby’s individual biological needs, family circumstances and parenting style while helping parents establish healthy sleep foundations.
That distinction matters.
Families are not interchangeable.
Babies are not interchangeable.
And a strategy that feels appropriate for one family may not be appropriate for another.
Vicki’s philosophy therefore begins with the individual child and family rather than a predetermined one-size-fits-all formula.
There Is No One-Size-Fits-All Baby
This is perhaps the clearest theme running throughout Vicki’s philosophy.
She explicitly emphasizes that there is no single approach appropriate for every baby and family.
Instead, she works with each family’s unique circumstances and considers the child’s biological needs, the parents’ goals and their parenting style when developing support.
Her consultations can include education surrounding sleep foundations, realistic developmental expectations, age-appropriate daily rhythms, bedtime routines, daytime and nighttime sleep, night waking, feeding and settling.
The objective isn’t simply sleep.
It’s helping parents better understand the child in front of them.
Beginning With the Newborn
Vicki’s work is particularly notable because support doesn’t begin only after a family encounters a major sleep challenge.
She also works with families during the newborn period.
Her newborn education is designed for families during approximately the first five months and includes education about the fourth trimester, healthy sleep foundations, realistic expectations, age-appropriate rhythms, bedtime rituals, and breast- and bottle-feeding guidance.
That early educational approach can be especially valuable because newborn sleep is fundamentally different from sleep later in infancy.
Rather than expecting newborns to function like older babies, Vicki emphasizes helping parents understand realistic expectations and newborn needs.
For overwhelmed new parents, sometimes understanding what is developmentally realistic can itself provide reassurance.
Newborn Education & Infant Mental Health
Vicki has continued expanding her education beyond sleep.
Her professional training includes Newborn Education through Harvey Karp’s Happiest Baby on the Block, Infant Mental Health training through SickKids Hospital in Toronto, and a Professional Intensive Course through Hand in Hand Parenting in the United States.
That multidisciplinary education is an important part of her professional identity.
On Instagram, Vicki describes her work through several complementary roles:
Newborn Care Specialist
Newborn Educator
Night Nurse
Infant Mental Health Development
And her website specifically highlights both newborn wellbeing and postnatal mental health as important areas within her work.
Sleep challenges don’t occur in isolation from the people experiencing them.
A baby may be struggling.
But behind that baby may also be an exhausted parent trying to function physically and emotionally while navigating enormous changes.
Recognizing the wellbeing of the whole family creates space for a broader conversation.
Supporting Parents, Not Just Sleep
One word appears repeatedly throughout Vicki’s website:
Support.
That is significant.
Her work isn’t presented simply as giving parents a schedule and sending them away.
Her sleep packages combine consultation with ongoing follow-up, and her services can include phone support, daytime in-home assistance and even overnight settling and sleep support.
That hands-on dimension distinguishes her professional background.
Vicki has worked alongside families during the moments when exhaustion is actually happening—not simply discussed it afterward.
Her client testimonials repeatedly mention her empathy, patience, flexibility, responsiveness and ability to help parents feel more confident in their own abilities.
That confidence is an important outcome in itself.
Gentle, Individualized Sleep Support
Vicki describes her approach as gentle, supportive and science-based.
Her website says her techniques aim to minimize crying while helping families establish effective sleep foundations and healthy sleep associations. She also emphasizes tailoring recommendations to the individual baby’s biological needs and the family’s parenting style.
Her client experiences reinforce that individualized philosophy.
One family describes choosing a slower, gentle approach responsive to their baby’s cues. Another describes Vicki as never pushing them beyond their comfort zone and respecting the reality that families parent differently.
This is where Vicki’s philosophy and holistic sleep education intersect particularly well:
The goal is not to force every family into the same method.
The goal is to understand what is happening, educate parents about healthy sleep foundations and find an approach that considers the child and family.
From Sleep Consultant to Parent Educator
Although Vicki is a sleep consultant, much of what she actually does is education.
Her website includes educational resources addressing newborn safety, settling newborns and developmental changes surrounding the four-month sleep period.
Her individual services similarly emphasize teaching parents about sleep rather than simply intervening on their behalf.
This matters because knowledge can remain with a family long after the consultation ends.
When parents understand:
why sleep changes,
what their child may need,
what expectations are realistic,
how environment and routines can influence sleep,
and how to respond when circumstances change,
they have something more lasting than a temporary solution.
They have greater confidence in their own ability to navigate sleep and parenting.
Supporting the Whole Family
Vicki says something simple on her About page that captures much of her professional philosophy:
Sleep is important for the whole family.
That perspective is important because infant and child sleep doesn’t happen in isolation.
When a baby wakes repeatedly, parents wake too.
When parents become exhausted, everyday life can become more difficult.
And when a family welcomes a newborn, physical recovery, feeding, emotional adjustment, relationships and sleep may all be occurring simultaneously.
Vicki’s professional background allows her to work within that wider picture.
Newborn care.
Infant mental health.
Postnatal wellbeing.
Feeding.
Settling.
Child development.
Sleep.
Parental confidence.
Rather than treating these as completely separate subjects, her work recognizes the ways they can intersect during early family life.

An Inspiration in Gentle, Holistic Family Support
Vicki Gray Kuper’s professional journey demonstrates how sleep support can expand beyond the question:
“How do we get this baby to sleep?”
Instead, her work asks broader questions.
What does this individual baby need?
What is developmentally realistic?
What is happening throughout the baby’s day?
What does this family value?
How are the parents coping?
What education would help them understand their child?
And how can they leave the experience feeling more confident, rather than more dependent on outside advice?
After 15 years supporting babies and families, Vicki continues to bring together newborn education, infant mental health, parent support and holistic sleep.
Through VGK Sleep Co., she has created a professional practice grounded in the belief that families deserve support that recognizes their individuality—and that healthy sleep is important not only for the child, but for the wellbeing of the entire family.
