Bridging Kinesiology, Neurodevelopment & Holistic Preconception, Pregnancy and Postpartum Nutrition

Katie Miller, Kinesiologist, Pre-Postnatal Nutrition CoachMeet Katie Miller, a kinesiology professional, Certified Cognitive Coach, and Head Sensory Motor Coach in San Diego, California, who is currently expanding her professional education through IPHI’s Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition Coach Certification Program.

Katie brings a professional background in kinesiology and neurodevelopment to her expanding work in preconception nutrition, pregnancy nutrition, and postpartum nutrition. Through IPHI’s Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition Coach Certification Program, Katie is building upon her experience in wellness, coaching, and healthy behavior change while developing specialized knowledge in holistic maternal nutrition. For approximately six years, her professional work has centered on sensory-motor and cognitive coaching, supporting neurodiverse children, teens, and adults as they develop foundational skills, healthy habits, confidence, independence, and overall well-being.

Now, she is bringing that experience in coaching, movement, development, and behavior change into another important area of health: nutrition throughout preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum.

A Foundation in Kinesiology and Human Movement

Katie earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from San José State University, with an emphasis in Inclusive Physical Activity in Communities.

Prior to transferring to San José State University, she studied kinesiology at West Valley College, where her additional training included personal training and sports medicine.

Her kinesiology education created a foundation in understanding human movement, physical activity, health, and wellness, knowledge that would eventually complement her professional work in sensory-motor and cognitive development.

Katie’s educational background also reflects an early interest in making health and movement accessible to individuals with differing abilities and needs.

That emphasis on individualized support continues to characterize her work today.

Six Years Supporting Neurodiversity and Development

Since 2020, Katie has worked with Brain Balance of San Diego, where she currently serves as Head Sensory Motor Coach. Her professional profile describes her work as supporting neurodiversity and development. Independent business listings also identify Katie in the Head Sensory Motor Coach role.

Her work involves supporting clients through sensory-motor and cognitive activities designed around their individual developmental needs.

Through this experience, Katie has developed hands-on skills in:

Sensory-Motor Development
Cognitive Development
Neurodiversity Support
Coaching & Behavior Change
Healthy Habit Development
Individualized Program Support

Her professional experience has included children and teens as well as adults, providing her with a perspective that spans different ages and developmental needs.

Advanced Education in Cognitive Coaching

Katie is also a Certified Cognitive Coach through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), a credential she earned in 2020. Her LinkedIn profile identifies skills associated with the credential including neurodiversity support and autism spectrum disorders.

This additional education complements her kinesiology and sensory-motor background.

Together, these areas have given Katie years of practical experience supporting people in creating change, not simply by providing information, but through coaching, individualized strategies, and ongoing support.

That distinction becomes especially valuable as she expands into nutrition education.

A New Professional Direction: Maternal & Reproductive Nutrition

Katie is currently participating in IPHI’s Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition Coach Certification Program, expanding her education into nutrition throughout the reproductive journey.

Her interest in this field also has a personal dimension.

As Katie navigates her own preconception journey, she has developed a deeper interest in maternal and reproductive nutrition and in the type of guidance women receive as they prepare for pregnancy.

Rather than keeping that interest solely personal, Katie has chosen to build upon her existing professional foundation and develop additional knowledge that can eventually support other women.

Her goal is to deepen her understanding of nutrition across:

Preconception
Pregnancy
Postpartum
Maternal Wellness

Creating Support Before Pregnancy Begins

One particularly meaningful aspect of Katie’s professional vision is her focus on preconception.

Conversations surrounding maternal wellness often begin after pregnancy has already started. Katie envisions supporting women earlier during the period when they are preparing for pregnancy and thinking intentionally about their nutrition, lifestyle, and overall well-being.

Her long-term goal is to create a wellness program that helps women feel prepared, confident, supported, and nourished as they plan for pregnancy.

She hopes to combine evidence-informed nutrition education with realistic strategies women can incorporate into everyday life.

Just as importantly, she envisions creating a supportive community around that experience.

For Katie, the goal isn’t to make preparation for pregnancy feel like another overwhelming list of things women must get “right.”

It’s to provide knowledge, practical tools, and support that can help women feel more empowered as they enter this stage of life.

Connecting Nutrition, Movement, Habits & Whole-Person Wellness

Katie’s professional evolution illustrates something fundamental to holistic wellness: our different systems and behaviors don’t exist independently.

Nutrition is connected with lifestyle.

Movement is connected with physical and emotional well-being.

Habits influence what we’re realistically able to implement in everyday life.

And education becomes far more useful when people know how to translate information into sustainable action.

Katie already brings years of experience in coaching, program implementation, healthy habit development, kinesiology, sensory-motor work, and individualized support.

Her education through IPHI is now adding another layer to that foundation.

Rather than changing professional directions entirely, she is expanding the lens through which she understands wellness.
