Registered Dietitian Nutritionist | Public Health Nutritionist | Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition Coach Certification Coach
For Hannah Wise, RDN, nutrition is about more than nutrients, meal plans, or what appears on a plate. At the heart of her work is helping women, children, and families develop what she describes as “healthy and joyful connections with food.”
A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a professional background spanning public health, child nutrition, nutrition education, community programming, farming, and food access, Hannah brings a uniquely grounded perspective to the field of nutrition.
She currently works as a Contract Manager and Registered Dietitian with the New York State Department of Health, where her experience intersects nutrition, health education, child nutrition, program development, and public health. Her professional journey reflects a longstanding commitment to helping individuals and communities build healthier relationships with food.
Hannah is now expanding that work in our Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition Coach Certification Program through the International Parenting & Health Institute (IPHI).
A Career Rooted in Nutrition, Children & Community Health
Hannah’s path into nutrition has been shaped by both formal education and years of hands-on community experience.
Her academic background includes studies in Nutrition Sciences at the University of Vermont, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from The Ohio State University and a Dietetic Internship at Keene State College.
Her professional experience has taken her through numerous dimensions of nutrition and community health, including work as a nutrition educator, dietetic technician, farm manager, registered dietitian, and public-health nutrition professional.
Earlier in her career, Hannah worked with organizations including the Children’s Hunger Alliance and WIC, where her responsibilities included nutrition education and supporting children and families. She later served as a farm manager and has continued to carry her connection to agriculture and food cultivation into the way she thinks about nutrition today.
That combination is particularly meaningful.
For Hannah, food isn’t simply something to prescribe or analyze. It can be something people understand, prepare, grow, experience, and enjoy.
Helping Families Build a Different Relationship With Food
Hannah describes her work this way:
“I help women, children, and families build healthy and joyful connections with food.”
She wants the people she supports to feel confident in the kitchen, grounded in their bodies, and connected to the food they eat.
Her background in farming and gardening adds another dimension to that philosophy. Hannah enjoys helping people understand where their food comes from and, when possible, teaching them how to grow some of it themselves.
It’s an approach that brings together nutrition education, food literacy, body awareness, practical skills, and connection with the natural process behind our food.
When Professional Knowledge Meets Motherhood
Hannah’s interest in pregnancy and postpartum nutrition is also personal.
As the mother of two young children, she has experienced firsthand what she describes as the powerful role nutrition can play in supporting a healthy pregnancy and optimal postpartum period.
That experience adds another layer to a career already dedicated to women, children, families, and community nutrition.
Pregnancy and postpartum are periods of profound physiological and lifestyle change. Nutrition during these stages exists within a much larger picture that can include maternal well-being, recovery, changing nutritional needs, infant feeding, family dynamics, access to food, cultural influences, and a person’s relationship with their own body.
Hannah’s decision to continue her education in holistic pre- and postnatal nutrition reflects an interest in exploring this period through an increasingly comprehensive lens.
Expanding Her Expertise Through IPHI
Hannah is currently participating in IPHI’s Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition Coach Certification Program, adding specialized study in pregnancy and postpartum nutrition to an already extensive foundation in dietetics and public health.
Her educational journey illustrates something we deeply value at IPHI: continuing education doesn’t always mean changing careers.
Sometimes it means deepening an existing one.
Experienced professionals can continue asking new questions, expanding their perspectives, and integrating additional areas of knowledge into the work they already do.
For Hannah, this next chapter brings together many threads that have been present throughout her professional and personal journey: nutrition, women, children, families, pregnancy, postpartum health, public health, food education, and connection to the foods that nourish us.
