Bridging 25 Years in Emergency Healthcare With Holistic Nutrition, Movement & Pre-Postnatal Wellness

Amy Larsen, Holistic Nutrition, Pre-postnatal Nutrition CoachMeet Amy Larsen, RHN, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, yoga teacher, Pilates instructor, founder of Tulā Holistic Health, and practitioner with The Maternal Village in Ontario, Canada.

Today, Amy’s professional work centers around holistic nutrition, women’s wellness, mindful movement, and lifestyle support. But her path into holistic health began after a remarkably different career.

Before entering the nutrition and wellness field, Amy spent 25 years working as a paramedic. Her own health journey eventually inspired another direction: returning to school to study natural nutrition and building a professional practice centered around helping people become more active participants in their health and well-being.

Now, Amy is continuing that evolution through the International Parenting & Health Institute’s Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition Coach Certification Program, expanding her education in nutrition specifically within the unique context of preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, and maternal wellness.

From 25 Years in Emergency Healthcare to Holistic Wellness

Twenty-five years as a paramedic provides a perspective on health that few wellness professionals possess.

Amy’s transition into holistic nutrition was also deeply personal.

On her Tulā Holistic Health website, Amy describes struggling with poor gut health for much of her life. Her desire to take greater control of her own well-being led her back to the fundamentals of food and lifestyle—and ultimately back to school.

She studied natural nutrition at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN) and became a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN). Out of that journey, Tulā Holistic Health was born.

Her mission today centers around helping others feel empowered in their own health journeys.

Bringing Together Nutrition, Movement & Lifestyle

What makes Amy’s professional background especially interesting is that nutrition represents only one dimension of her work.

She is also a YTT500 yoga teacher, Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT), and Pilates instructor.

At The Maternal Village, Amy supports women through multiple seasons of life by combining nutrition, movement, and lifestyle guidance. Her listed specialties include holistic nutrition, women’s wellness, yoga, Pilates and mindful movement, and lifestyle and habit support.

Her own practice also reflects this integrated philosophy. Tulā Holistic Health incorporates individualized nutrition and lifestyle coaching, meal planning, gut-health support, and movement practices designed to complement wellness goals.

Rather than separating food, movement, lifestyle, and well-being into isolated categories, Amy’s work recognizes the relationships among them.

Supporting Women Through Pregnancy, Postpartum & Beyond

Amy’s work with The Maternal Village brings this whole-person perspective directly into women’s health.

The Maternal Village is a collaborative community supporting women and families through fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, menopause, and beyond. Within that multidisciplinary setting, Amy provides holistic nutrition and wellness support, including during pregnancy and postpartum.

These life stages can involve significant changes in nutritional needs, energy, movement, routines, recovery, and overall well-being.

Pregnancy isn’t simply a matter of eating differently.

Postpartum isn’t simply about “getting back” to where someone was before pregnancy.

These are complex physiological and life transitions occurring alongside changing responsibilities, disrupted routines, recovery, feeding considerations, sleep, stress, emotional health, and the demands of caring for another human being.

Supporting women effectively during these periods requires seeing the person, not merely the nutritional recommendation.

Expanding Her Education in Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition

Amy is currently continuing her professional education through IPHI’s Holistic Pre-Postnatal Nutrition Coach Certification Program.

For someone whose existing work already sits at the intersection of nutrition, movement, lifestyle, pregnancy, and postpartum wellness, this represents a natural extension of her professional foundation.

The program allows Amy to deepen her exploration of nutrition across the preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum continuum while considering the broader circumstances that influence maternal wellness.

Her professional journey brings together several perspectives:

25 years in emergency healthcare.

Holistic nutrition.

Women’s wellness.

Prenatal yoga and mindful movement.

Pilates.

Lifestyle and habit support.

And expanding education in holistic pre-postnatal nutrition.

Together, these create a genuinely multidisciplinary approach to wellness.

A Whole-Person Perspective on Maternal Health

One of the central ideas behind holistic health is that human beings cannot easily be divided into isolated systems.

Nutrition may influence energy and well-being.

Movement can interact with physical and emotional health.

Stress and lifestyle can influence everyday health behaviors.

Pregnancy changes physiology.

Birth introduces another profound transition.

And postpartum life can reshape virtually every aspect of a person’s daily routine.

Amy’s professional background allows her to approach these intersections through multiple lenses rather than only one.

Her experience also demonstrates that professional evolution doesn’t necessarily mean leaving one’s previous career behind. Twenty-five years spent working in emergency healthcare remain part of the perspective Amy brings into her work today.
