Bridging Early Childhood Education, Holistic Sleep & Educator Support
Meet Maria Bautista, early childhood specialist, Montessori-trained educator, organizational leadership professional, Child Care Licensing Specialist and Service Navigator, and graduate of the International Parenting & Health Institute’s Holistic Pregnancy & Child Sleep Consultant Certification Program.
With more than a decade of experience in early childhood education, Maria’s career has grown from directly guiding toddlers in the classroom to helping support the educators, programs and systems that shape children’s earliest experiences.
Her professional journey brings together:
Early childhood development.
Montessori education.
Infant and toddler care.
Holistic child sleep.
Family support.
Educator development.
Coaching.
Leadership.
Today, Maria works with the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood, where her LinkedIn identifies her as a Child Care Licensing Specialist / Service Navigator.
The Connecticut Office of Early Childhood also currently identifies Maria as one of its Service Navigators, professionals who help early childhood programs understand their needs and connect with resources related to supporting child development, families, staff, learning environments and program operations. It’s a meaningful evolution for someone whose career began much closer to the classroom floor.
More Than a Decade Dedicated to Early Childhood
Maria describes herself as an early childhood specialist with more than ten years of experience, passionate about fostering holistic, lifelong learning in young children.
Her philosophy is centered on creating nurturing environments in which children can thrive across developmental domains.
But Maria’s career also demonstrates something important:
Supporting children doesn’t happen only through direct interaction with children.
It happens through supporting their parents.
Their educators.
Their classrooms.
Their care environments.
And the early childhood professionals responsible for guiding them every day.
That broader perspective has increasingly shaped Maria’s professional path.
Nearly a Decade in Montessori Education
A significant part of Maria’s foundation comes from Montessori education.
From 2009 to 2019, Maria worked as an A to I Montessori Toddler Teacher at the Montessori School of Greater Hartford.
Nearly ten years spent with toddlers gave her extensive firsthand experience observing early development—not simply academically, but within the rhythms and relationships of everyday childhood.
Her educational background reflects that specialization.
Maria studied Liberal Arts and Montessori Teacher Education at Endicott College, and she holds an AMI Assistants to Infancy Certified Guide credential through the Montessori Institute.
She is also a Certified Head Teacher through the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood.
These experiences established a strong foundation in infant and toddler development long before Maria expanded into other areas of professional education.
Understanding the Whole Child
Maria’s professional philosophy describes a commitment to holistic lifelong learning.
That perspective matters in early childhood.
Children don’t experience development in isolated categories.
Sleep can influence how a child experiences the day.
Relationships influence emotional security.
Environment affects exploration.
Communication influences connection.
Development influences expectations.
And the adults surrounding a child help create the conditions in which all of these pieces unfold.
Maria’s interest in supporting the whole child eventually led her to expand her professional education into another fundamental area of childhood:
sleep.
Expanding Into Holistic Pregnancy & Child Sleep
Maria completed the Holistic Pregnancy & Child Sleep Consultant Certification Program through the International Parenting & Health Institute.
Her current LinkedIn profile continues to publicly list her IPHI Holistic Pregnancy & Child Sleep Consultant credential among her professional certifications.
For an early childhood professional with extensive experience supporting infants and toddlers, sleep education added another lens through which to understand children and families.
IPHI’s holistic approach considers sleep within the larger context of the child rather than viewing nighttime behavior in isolation.
For an educator like Maria, that fits naturally with a career already grounded in observing development, environment, relationships and individual needs.
Sleep becomes another piece of understanding the whole child.
Adding Infant Massage and Somatic Connection
Maria’s professional education also includes certification as an Infant Massage Therapist/Coach through the Institute of Somatic Therapy.
That training adds another dimension to her work with infants and families.
Touch, responsiveness, caregiver-child interaction and physical connection all exist within the broader relational environment surrounding an infant.
Together, Maria’s backgrounds in Montessori education, infant massage and holistic sleep demonstrate a career-long interest in understanding the early years through more than one developmental lens.
From Teaching Children to Supporting Educators
After years working directly in Montessori education, Maria’s career evolved.
Her LinkedIn describes her professional mission today as:
“Supporting educators: Empowering Early Childhood professionals with the tools they need to guide the child to success.”
That statement captures the progression of her career beautifully.
The child remains at the center.
But Maria’s role has expanded from being the educator directly guiding the child to helping strengthen the professionals and systems surrounding children.
She describes contributing to professional development, curriculum design and accreditation processes and supporting educators in creating impactful early-childhood experiences.
In other words:
Support the educator, and you expand the number of children that educator can positively influence.
Strengthening Leadership Through Education
Maria continued developing her professional expertise academically as well.
After earning an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Teaching through Capital Community College Magnet Academy in 2013, and studying Liberal Arts and Montessori Teacher Education at Endicott College, Maria earned her Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Goodwin University in 2021.
That graduate education represents another important evolution.
Early childhood expertise tells us a great deal about children.
Leadership education adds another question:
How do we support the adults and organizations responsible for serving them?
Her current work sits directly at the intersection of those two areas.
Supporting Connecticut’s Early Childhood Professionals
In 2025, Maria joined the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood as a Child Care Licensing Specialist / Service Navigator.
Her current role moves her impact from an individual classroom into the broader early-childhood system.
The Connecticut Office of Early Childhood explains that its Service Navigators help early-childhood programs connect with resources across five major areas:
building teams,
connecting with families,
enhancing environments,
managing businesses,
and supporting child development. Connecticut Office of Early Childhood
Maria is currently identified by the agency as the Service Navigator for Central Connecticut, as well as a Spanish-language Service Navigator for Southwest Connecticut. Connecticut Office of Early Childhood
That bilingual dimension of her work is worth recognizing.
It allows Maria to help make early-childhood resources and professional guidance more accessible to Spanish-speaking providers and communities.
The Educator Behind the Educators
There is a compelling progression in Maria’s career.
For nearly a decade, she worked directly with toddlers.
She studied Montessori education.
She developed expertise in early childhood.
She expanded into infant massage.
She studied holistic pregnancy and child sleep.
She pursued graduate education in organizational leadership.
And today, she helps guide and support the professionals who create learning and care environments for children across Connecticut.
The work looks different from where she started.
But the purpose remains remarkably consistent:
Helping create environments in which children can thrive.
A Holistic Perspective Beyond Sleep
Maria’s professional development has also included continuing education related to mindfulness, resilience, stress management, communication and relationship building.
These areas may seem separate from early childhood or sleep at first glance.
But they point toward something larger.
The wellbeing of children is connected to the wellbeing and capacity of the adults supporting them.
Educators need communication skills.
Teams need collaboration.
Professionals encounter stress.
Families need relationships built on trust.
And people working within early childhood systems need tools that allow them to navigate challenging conversations while remaining focused on the needs of children.
Maria’s continuing education reflects that broader professional development.

From Guiding Toddlers to Guiding the Professionals Who Support Them
Maria Bautista’s career demonstrates that impact in early childhood can take many forms.
Sometimes it’s sitting beside a toddler and helping them explore their environment.
Sometimes it’s helping a family better understand their child’s development and sleep.
Sometimes it’s preparing an educator.
Sometimes it’s strengthening a program.
And sometimes it’s helping professionals navigate the systems and resources that allow them to better serve children.
Maria has experienced several sides of that journey.
Her professional path has moved from Montessori classrooms and direct toddler education to holistic sleep, leadership, professional development and statewide early-childhood support.
And through each evolution, one thread has remained:
the child.
The role may change.
The setting may change.
The way support is delivered may change.
But the goal remains creating environments where children, and the adults guiding them, have the resources they need to thrive.
💙 Congratulations, Maria!
