“The Baby Planner Profession: What You Need to Know.” In addition, Mar was the first to create and introduce an international Baby Planner Certification program in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
What is a Baby Planner?
A baby planner is a pregnancy and postpartum coach. They meet with expecting and new parents and offer education, resources and support so that they can make informed decisions. They may also recommend products, resources, services, support and additional education for their clients.
Baby Planners empower expecting and new parents to make the right decisions for themselves and their babies by offering support and education in a non-biased fashion that is tailored for meeting the unique needs of each individual family during preconception, pregnancy and beyond. “Some expecting parents may want to know the differences between a Bradley, Lamaze, and HypnoBirthing class, while other parents want to know if they should use a birthing or postpartum doula. Some expecting parents want help with choosing products for their registry, while others want to do the research for themselves. What is important is that a baby planner does not assume what a client needs and tailors their services based on each client’s specific situation.
Baby planners may work with expecting parents throughout the entire duration of their pregnancy, postpartum or may meet with them for just a few sessions.
HOW THIS PROGRAM WORKS
ONLINE INSTRUCTION
All of our courses are taught online and internationally. All you need is Internet access to login and be part of each class.
SELF-DIRECTED: All sessions are pre-recorded, and you are given access to the new modules as you complete each one. You will email your instructor or attend a weekly/monthly conference-call with the instructor, as needed to ask any questions you may have.
This course is primarily self-directed with live support calls provided as needed when questions are submitted.
Course Deadline: Participants have one year to complete the course from the date of enrollment.
Certification Requirements: Participants must complete all course requirements which include completion of assigments, final project and practicum work. More details of our course requirements can be found in our course terms and conditions upon enrollment.

As the Baby Planner industry first emerged in 2008, it was an industry and service that was focused on supporting expecting and new families navigate around the world of baby products. Mar De Carlo, IPHI’s founder, who has an incredibly diverse background with extensive professional training and experience, saw the need and importance to challenge the baby planning industry by reshaping its’ focus to include services to support expecting and new families navigate the world of pre-conception, birthing options, postpartum options, parental care, newborn care, breastfeeding options and much more in order to honor and assist the physical and emotional wellbeing that expecting and new families go through during their journey.
Mar founded the International Academy of Baby Planner Professionals and consequently laid the industry’s professional foundation by introducing the baby planner industry’s first professional book and certification program in 2009, as at the time, no established professional training existed to qualify baby planner professionals with a scope of practice, boundaries of practice, code of ethics etc.
In 2010, Ana Maria Anselmo, one of Mar’s first Baby Planner graduates joined the IPHI to support teaching and expanding IPHI’s Baby Planner program in Brazil.
In 2021, with the support of Ana Maria Anselmo, the first Portuguese book for Baby Planner professionals was launched.
Besides the significant contributions Mar has made to the baby planner industry, it is important to note that the content included in our Baby Planner program is not made up by Mar on her own. While Mar pioneered an expanded approach to Baby Planning and while Mar has over two decades of extensive professional training and experience which includes over 30 certifications, she along with her team, have compiled a wealth of evidenced based research and science that is not just based on theory but also practical application. During their learning journey, students of our Baby Planner program have an opportunity to apply and practice what they learn.

The International Parenting & Health Institute is an International Organization and so all of our courses are recognized in all countries, provided the profession isn’t regulated by law in your country.
On average we find most students spend between 5-6 hours per week. Many of our students work full-time jobs and find it quite convenient to take an online course that is recorded and available to be listened to at any time day or night! However, we do not encourage rushing through our programs. In fact we motivate and inspire our students to learn in a stress free enviornment and in a way they can take their time to properly absorb and apply the information they are learning. This is why we provide our students a one year course deadline and a one time three month complimentary extension if needed.

“My journey at IPHI began June 2012, after coming across Mar’s book- The Baby Planner Profession. I have a BA in Finance and have been working in the Banking industry for a little over 8 years. To remain IPHI recognized, and to continue receiving the benefits of an IPHI trained professional, students are required to maintain a standard of professional development measured every two years after receiving your official certification.
This consists of 3 easy steps:
Step 1: Earn 25 Professional Development Credits every two years (continuing education credits/CEUs) Professional Development Credits can be acquired many different ways, such as, attending seminars or conferences related to professional development in the maternity industry, participation in webinars that offer educational classes, writing book reports, completing case histories, etc…. 1 hour = 1 professional development credit
Step 2: Be covered by current liability insurance if your country or state requires it.
Step 3: Complete and submit the IPHI certification renewal form which includes a processing fee of $75.
